A handful of DIYs

Confession: I read in the loo.

I know for a fact that in this part of the universe that I live in, people do find it “unholy” to read in the loo, hence the confession.

Now, since I have made the confession I feel at peace to finish this post.

For my birthday last year SSM had gifted me with a lovely bouquet of orchids and lilies – Oh, how I love lilies. The flowers were beautifully arranged in a rectangular wooden case.

With days the flowers wilted but the case stayed. And I put it away behind a cupboard.

It lay there all this while alone and forlorn till today morning when I suddenly had a ‘eureka’ moment.

And this is what happened.

I got it out cleaned it up; oiled it; caressed it and voila! I couldn't stop smiling. J

Loo reading is fun and I have always wished for a bookshelf in my bathroom. I have known that, that would be a little too much for ask for. But just a tiny little place to keep just a book or two has been a craving for long.

And now I had my bookshelf right here in front of my eyes. I chiseled off the bits of fiber glass that was stuck on it and stuck a bit of 'Winnie the pooh' wallpaper to cover up the blemishes on the case. I then fixed it up in the bathroom with some strong double sided tape.

It’s perfect to hold a couple of regular sized books and it looks wonderful.

Well now that I had a shelf, I wanted to do it up a bit. So I got a old of a jar, filled it with potpourri, sprinkled some sandal wood oil in it, covered it with a pretty looking cloth and fastened it up with a jute thread.

There it is now adorning my bookshelf and the bookshelf adorning my bathroom.

And there you go.... Doesn't it all look just awesome -The shelf, the jar and the book?

Also, stomach upsets do not seem too bad anymore. K

    2. Is that so? then my Sashuri gets brownie points. She has no issues with this. Her husband and children and children in law are all fond of reading in the loo.

    3. She sure does get the brownie points. My Sashuri has got in terms with me reading in the loo, not that she really appreciates it. :D

As a kid I have grown up reading and studying in the loo. (Even during the good old days of Indian style loos.)

  5. Reading in the loo is one of the best feelings one can ever have. You take in the best, give out the worst, and no one disturbs you.

    1. Agreed. And it is better when there is a bookshelf as well.

    1. Show this post to ma, then let me speak to her. You know I will convince her.

  8. I really liked the idea and the article. Kept me engaged. What surprises me though ,that everyone is rather delighted to share how good their 'reading in the loo' habit is , and none of them really noticed how well it is written:O!

    1. Thanks, Mohua.

I guess that is because it is the idea of a bookshelf in the loo rather than the writing that is really appealing in this post. :) I don't really blame them.
